Important Note: The Marin County Community Development Agency makes grant funds available only to non-profit agencies and local governments. We do not fund individuals or families.
Marin County Seeks Applicants for Membership on the Community Development Block Grant Priority Setting Committee
The reason for expanding the committee is to bring greater diversity to the group that (1) advises the Board of Supervisors on the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Program funding allocation process and (2) provides input on the County's implementation of the Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice. Therefore, this recruitment is specifically for individuals who represent the interests of racial and ethnic minorities and/or people with disabilities. For details on this opportunity, please click here. Committee membership applications are due February 7, 2012.

The Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice
The Analysis of Impediments to Fair Housing Choice (AI) is a comprehensive planning document commissioned by the County as part of its mandate to affirmatively further fair housing. The AI identifies barriers to fair housing choice in Marin County. The County is soliciting public comment on the completeness of the list of needs in the AI, which of the needs identified in the AI are greatest, and priorities for addressing those needs. The AI is a large document, and we suggest that you begin with the Executive Summary. All chapters can be accessed through the links below.
There will be hearings on the AI on March 29, May 11, May 31, and June 28, 2011. The period for written comments on the AI will close on May 16, 2011. For details, please see the link above, Information on the AI Public Comment and Hearing Process.

Marin County's Community Development Agency administers
three federal grant programs which make grants available to nonprofit and public
agencies for projects serving low income people. All three programs are funded
by the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development. The programs are:
The Community Development Block Grant Program, known as CDBG
The HOME Program
The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program, known as HOPWA.
Community Development Block Grant Program (CDBG)
The Community Development Block Grant Program provides funding for housing, community facilities, and human services. The HOME program provides funding only for housing. There is an annual application cycle for the Community Development Block Grant and HOME Programs, with applications due in December for funding which becomes available in July. Both programs make grants only to nonprofit and public agencies, not to individuals. All projects must serve low-income people. For more information, call (415) 473-6279 and specify whether you want the Community Development Block Grant brochure or the HOME brochure, or both. You may also call the same number to ask to be placed on our mailing list for information about our grant application workshops and our annual application cycle. The competition for funding is intense, but the application is a one-page form that's easy to fill out. Click here for more detailed information on the CDBG Program.
Community Development Block Grant-Recovery Program (CDBG-R) (Funded by the federal Stimulus Bill)
Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program (HOPWA)
There are many other block grants established by various state and federal agencies. To track down information about other block grants, try calling a local agency which provides services in that category.
Please remember that we make grants only to nonprofit or public agencies, not to individuals. If you are in need of individual assistance, please call toll-free 1-800-273-6222 or the Marin Housing Authority at 491-2525.
