CULTURAL
SERVICES, MARIN CENTER
Maintenance
Aide, Cultural Services. Learn to solve problems, fix
things, and
build practical skills during a one-semester internship with the Marin
Center
Events Facilities Services team. Assist in all facilities services,
including
but not limited to facilities maintenance, electrical, plumbing,
key-locking,
painting, and exhibits. The ideal candidate for this position has a
can-do
attitude, willingness to learn, interest in the listed skills, and the
ability
to lift up to 60 pounds.
HEALTH
AND HUMAN SERVICES
Co-Facilitator
Interns at County Jail, Detention Services. Work with
detention
health care staff to help incarcerated people with chronic illness
learn the
skills to cope with their disease. Co-facilitators will help present
six-week
sessions of the Chronic Disease Self-Management Program at Marin County
Jail.
The content is in the form of an interactive, scripted program
developed at
Stanford University. The program is educational, fun, and powerful. The
ideal
intern has worked or volunteered in a jail setting or, if not, would be
comfortable working with incarcerated individuals. Education in health
care,
social science, criminal justice, or teaching is not necessary but is a
plus.
Students must be 21 or older and submit to security clearance and
background
check. Training provided. Six-month commitment requested.
Community Prevention Specialist/Intern. Prevention
Hub. Have you worked in or have interest in public health and
prevention
work? The ideal intern will assist the newly created Prevention Hub to
implement trainings, develop resources and data,
and assist in electronic and web communication with contracted
providers and
the general public. The ideal intern is passionate about health
and
prevention issues and has excellent organizational and communication
skills. Two positions available. Hours: Up to 12-15/week; Tuesdays
and
Fridays preferred. Youth/young adults and high school students
especially
encouraged to apply. Staff will provide orientation. Office
location: San
Rafael. Some work could be done from home on internet.
Health Education
Trainer/Educator, WIC. Do you
have a background in child development, positive discipline strategies,
research, teaching , or training? If so, WIC seeks a knowledgeable and
skilled
child development specialist intern or volunteer to research, design,
and
implement training modules that WIC staff can utilize to teach and
support
their clients around positive discipline, especially around feeding
issues.
This may be a short-term project with a few targeted training sessions,
or
depending on the breadth of knowledge of the volunteer, may expand into
other
identified areas to support the staff in their efforts to educate and
support
their clients. Flexible, negotiable schedule. Some work may be able to
be done
at home.HHS Compliance training will be required prior to starting.
Intergenerational
Conversation Project Intern, Aging
& Adult Services. The Intergenerational Conversation Project
seeks
interns to be matched with diverse older adults for weekly
get-togethers. As an
intern you will be visiting older adult clients in their homes for
social
interaction and conversations. If you are a punctual, outgoing person
who
enjoys reaching out to others, this internship is for you.
Public Information
Communications Intern, Community Health
and Prevention Services. Are you interested in Public Health
issues and/or
communication/media relations? Intern will help with the development
and
implementation of overall communications plan for H&HS, design
templates,
research and formulate content for email communications, organize
distribution
lists, and assist with video media productions. Candidate should be
proficient
in computer programs, and possess strong written, organizational and
verbal
skills. Video production knowledge a plus but not required.
MARIN
COUNTY FREE LIBRARY (Note Branch)
Teen
Client Assistant, Marin City Library. Do you enjoy
working
with teens? Do you have a talent for diffusing potentially volatile
situations?
Are you patient when interacting with young people? The Marin City
Library
staff is looking for a mature student intern to interact with teens
afternoons
and weekends when young people are using the library’s computers.
Behavioral
issues may include loud talking and some arguing. The ideal intern will
engage
teen patrons in a positive way, talk with them regularly, and help
staff
intervene in peer-to-peer disagreements. Great opportunity for social
science
students interested in working with youth. Hours: 3-hour and 4-hour
shifts
available. Staff will provide orientation, back-up, and ongoing
supervision.
PARKS
AND OPEN SPACE
Communications Assistant and
Archive
Manager, Open Space District Admin.
Would you like to become a vital part of the Marin County Parks
department? A
highly-motivated intern is needed to support MCP's communications
efforts. This
position will involve conducting research, writing and editing bios for
"Our Parks, Our History," drafting articles, and cataloguing an
internal photo library. Intern needed for 2 days a week.
Park
Planning Aide, Parks and Open Space. Help shape the
future of
Marin’s parks while working in a fast-paced environment as a
member of a
professional team! Projects may include development of a sign program
or design
of small landscape and irrigation plans for parks, with possible
limited
participation in master planning and park design. The ideal candidate
is an excellent
verbal, written and graphic communicator, enjoys research and analysis,
likes
to solve problems, and is comfortable working indoors and outside.
Required:
AutoCAD proficiency and educational focus (major or recent degree) in
landscape
architecture. Staff will orient the intern to the department. Hours:
Flexible
schedule.
PROBATION
Employment Advisor,
Juvenile Hall. Help incarcerated
teens craft resumes, complete forms, practice interviewing, and
understand the
basics of a job search. The idea volunteer knows local job market for
teens,
can help students consider appropriate jobs, and has experience in
social services,
education, administration of justice, or related field.
Volunteer must be 21 or older, comfortable
visiting a locked facility, and able to maintain strict
confidentiality. Hours:
4 to 8 a week for at least three months. Staff will provide
orientation.
SHERIFF
(Applicants
must be at least 18 and are subject to
the Sheriff’s Office drug use guidelines and
required to pass a background investigation prior to appointment.)
Social
Media Specialist, Emergency Management Services. Use your
social
media smarts to assess and recommend effective approaches to social
media for
the Information Technology team that helps keep Marin ready for
emergencies.
Working with staff, the intern will establish a social media program
for the
Office of Emergency Services. The ideal intern has deep knowledge of
social
media, the ability to organize and work independently, and a major in
computer
science, business, marketing, or journalism. Not required but a
plus:
bilingual ability, good people skills, initiative, a sense of the
future of
social media, or public relations skills. Hours: 8 to 16 a week for a
semester
or until the project is finished. Hours: anytime between 7 a.m. and 5
p.m. on
Tuesdays and/or Thursdays. Staff will introduce the intern to emergency
management, county government, and computer operations.
